CNN acknowledges His Holiness’ 90th Birthday

I’m wishing a Happy and healthy 90th birthday to His Holiness, the Fourteenth Dalai Lama. So many of us appreciate all of the good and kindness that His Holiness has consistently encouraged and implemented for the Tibetan people living in exile, in diaspora, in India and other countries and for the world at large.

I witnessed this compassion firsthand, while living as a guest at the Sera Mey and Sera Jey Monasteries a few years ago. One of the things that has left a huge impression on me is the forward thinking nature of His Holiness. He collaborated with Emory University in 2006 to establish the Emory Tibet Science Initiative with the sole purpose of bridging eastern and western science.and philosophies. I consider myself so fortunate to be a part of these dialogues.

I am grateful for my experience at large, some of the new friendships I have forged, some of the beautiful Tibetan Buddhist philosophies I have learned, the serendipitous experience I had of becoming so engaged by the ancient Tibetan debates, and a deep appreciation for the ongoing interest that Tibetan Buddhist monks and nuns use to evolve their critical thinking skills and to refine and derive at their own logic and reasoning about various topics.
