An American medical mission, led by Dr. Mark Weinstein, CEO and Founder; took place in Mbale, Uganda in May of 2014. Dr Weinstein, recently retired, has been a long-term surgeon at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. The mission served a dual purpose –Cleft lip and palate surgeries were performed on young babies, children and adults and an information exchange occurred. Mothers of young babies, children and even adults were overjoyed to see their children after their successful cleft lip and palate surgeries. After the surgeries, Dr. Weinstein taught young medical students at the hospital’s clinic, while Dr. Filbert, Head Surgeon at the Mbale Regional Hospital, taught visiting students from Kigali, both drawing on the medical mission’s cleft surgeries.
